Proposition 50 Statistics
Water Quality, Supply and Safe Drinking Water Projects,
Coastal Wetlands Purchase and Protection Act of 2002
History: Proposition 50 was NOT developed through the Legislative process. However, if Proposition 50 passes, the Legislature would have a role in appropriating the funds.
Data: Proposition 50 authorizes $3.4 billion in general obligation bonds and appropriates money from the state General Fund to pay off these bonds.
Within Proposition 50, funds are allocated in the following manner:
![]() |
Land Acquisition - 38% |
![]() |
Habitat Restoration - 25% |

! Proposition 50 is at least the third water bond since 1966.
! 1966 Prop 204 authorized $995 million.
! 2000 Prop 13 authorized $1.97 billion
Prop 50 is a "waterless" water bond. There is no funding for storage, no creation of new water, and insignificant impact on supply. More than 50% of the Prop 50 funds go to Coastal Protection and the CALFED Bay Delta Program.
