FWA Fish Screen Program

  • Since 1996, Family Water Alliance (FWA) has served as the program manager for small agricultural fish-screen projects, in partnership with state and federal agencies and private contributors. Through this collaboration, FWA has led the research, development, and installation of innovative fish screens on small agricultural diversions throughout the Sacramento Valley.

  • This has played a critical role in achieving a common‑sense application of the Endangered Species Act for Sacramento and Feather River diversions. By working directly with landowners, engineers, and regulatory agencies, FWA has helped ensure that environmental protections are met without compromising the viability of family farms.

  • FWA has a proven track record of success. To date, the organization has installed more than 45 fish screens using the most advanced and effective technology available, demonstrating both technical expertise and a deep commitment to agricultural and environmental stewardship.
